Ask for a Referral
Ask for a referral before it’s too late.
Unfortunately, there are too many stories of people who paid too much for a product or service or were treated terribly as customers. It’s not only sad because the people deserved better – better pricing, a better product, better service, better care – but also because their disappointment quite possibly could have all been avoided if they had simply asked for a referral. Many times when we’re in the market for something we think the internet is all we need. We can research what’s available, what questions to ask, and how to determine what we need. Then we feel well-equipped to make a final decision, even when planning to spend thousands of dollars.
But all too often, despite our best research efforts, we end up disappointed. Of course, then we are usually not shy about voicing our disappointment any chance we get, whether just to vent or as a warning to others. Many times, our complaints are met with empathy from people we know who have had the same experience, which makes us feel relieved that at least we weren’t the only ones who believed we were paying for something much better than we got. Other times, the people listening tell us about a wonderful experience they had with a different company or about their neighbor who provides that same product or service for much less. The point is, when you’re in the market for a product or service, especially if it’s quite an investment, talk to people you trust before you make a decision. Just because your friend is a realtor doesn’t mean he doesn’t know a great website designer, or mechanic, or accountant. While a referral may not always guarantee you’ll be a happy customer, combined with your research, it certainly increases the odds!
